Building in Bushfire Areas

Western Australia has some of the driest climatic regions in Australia and is prone to bushfire attack, particularly around the south west regions. In the past few years there have been numerous fire events that have devastated bushland areas and destroyed or damaged properties.

The Building Commission’s guide, Building for better protection in bushfire areas is available for homeowners who wish to improve the design and construction of their home to minimise potential damage from bushfires.  The guide explains the construction requirements and building standards for new homes and assists those who wish to upgrade their existing homes for better protection from bushfires.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) provide a number of helpful publications about living and building in bushfire prone areas, including facts about Evaporative Air Conditioners.
