Western Australia’s new building laws

Western Australia now has the modern and flexible legislation necessary to move our important and expanding industry forward.

With around 35,000 building applications in our state every year involving almost 140 local governments; more than 6,600 registered builders and around 250 registered building surveyors, changing over to the new system has been a bold undertaking but also a vital one.

Some minor amendments to the Building Act made in consultation with our key stakeholders and industry partners, have now passed through Parliament and make good legislation even better read more.

Keys to quick approvals

Read the keys to quick approvals The Building Act: Keys to quick approvals has been developed in consultation with industry representatives, permit authorities and stakeholders. It documents the process for permit applications under the Building Act, and what each person is responsible for at every stage of the building process.

Apology

The December issue of Builders News incorrectly reported the outcome of disciplinary proceedings in the State Administrative Tribunal against Projex Management and Construction Pty Ltd and its director Danne Adam Forte. It was erroneously reported that Projex and Mr Forte were fined in relation to negligence in connection with the performance of building work. The Building Commission retracts that statement and sincerely apologises to both Projex and Mr Forte for any distress it may have caused.
