Permits now required before work commences

by | Oct 08, 2012

A Ministerial Order that allowed some building work to commence before a permit was issued does not apply to applications lodged after 30 September 2012.

Owners and builders who lodge applications for building permits after that date must wait for the permit to be issued before the commencement of all work.

Owners and builders who lodged applications between 1 January and 30 June 2012 can continue their work, unless the application is rejected.

The Ministerial Order was a temporary measure introduced to address a drop in cash flow in the housing industry following the introduction of new building laws in April 2012.

The Ministerial Order did not remove the obligation to obtain all other necessary approvals, such as planning; give required notifications; or to build in accordance with the building standards.
